8.9 million visitors to the Musée du Louvre in 2023

January 2024

The Public Establishment of the Musée du Louvre welcomed 8.9 million visitors over the course of 2023. Visitor attendance showed a marked increase (+14% from 2022), starting to approach pre-pandemic levels. The French public demonstrated their steadfast attachment to the museum, drawn by its strong cultural programming, which gives pride of place to contemporary art.

The Louvre is committed to continuously offering new experiences to its visitors and designing new exhibition formats reflecting the evolution of cultural norms. To this end, the museum’s opening hours were extended until 8 p.m. (instead of 6 p.m.) during the holiday season, giving visitors invaluable extra time to explore the nation’s collections. Beginning in April 2024, night openings may be provided on Wednesdays as well, complementing the existing Friday night opening hours.

A daily availability cap of 30,000 tickets per day will be maintained going into 2024, the year of the Olympic Games in Paris. This cap will play an essential role in guaranteeing an optimal experience for our visitors and ensuring the best possible working conditions for our agents.
