2.8 million visitors to the Musée du Louvre in 2021

The Musée du Louvre welcomed 2.8 million visitors in 2021, with visitation patterns that greatly differed from previous years:
A strong recovery at the end of 2021
. After five months of closure (from 1 January 2021 to 19 May 2021), the Musée du Louvre welcomed more visitors in October and November 2021 than during summer 2021. Several factors can explain this trend: the sharp drop in infections in the autumn, the gradual end to capped capacity, the gradual reopening of borders and implementation of health passes. 
Mainly French visitors (61%). Near absence of Asian visitors and weaker presence of visitors from the American continent.
Young audiences. 20% of under 18s and 28% of 18-25 from the European Union. 
A high rate of free admission (55%). French and European Economic Area residents under the age of 26 are entitled to free admission. 
Local audiences. High numbers of visitors from the Île-de-France region (61% of visitors) came to the museum.

‘Body and Soul: Italian Renaissance Sculpture from Donatello to Michelangelo’: 72,500 visitors in total from 22 octobre 2020 to 21 juin 2021, of which 53,200 in 2021 (from 19 May to 21 June 2021)
‘The Advent of the Artist’, the 5th season of the Petite Galerie: 377,500 visitors in total from 25 September 2019 to 5 July 2021, of which 34,200 in 2021 (from 19 May to 5 July 2021)
‘Paris-Athens: The Birth of Modern Greece, 1675-1919’: 101,600 visitors from 30 September 2021 to 31 December 2021. On view through 7 February 2022
‘From Afar: Travelling Material and Objects’, the 6th season of the Petite Galerie : 95,800 visitors from 22 September 2021 and 31 December 2021. On view through 4 July 2022

The Musée National Eugène-Delacroix welcomed 25,900 visitors. 

Free programming 
- 36,700 participants in the mini-discovery tours.
- 6,500 spectators for ‘Cinéma Paradiso Louvre’ from 1 to 4 July in the Cour Carrée.
- 12,500 players investigated the ‘Secret d’Arcadie’ in the Tuileries Gardens, from 10 July to 29 August 2021.
- ‘Happy’, the dance performance created by Fouad Boussouf, held under the Pyramid on 12 and 13 July, drew 2,000 spectators.
- Nearly 4,000 autonomous groups came to visit the Louvre, including 1,340 school groups, 340 disadvantaged group and 100 groups of disabled persons.

- 9.1 million visitors to louvre.fr, the new version of which was launched in March
- 1.2 million visitors to collections.louvre.fr the month of its launch

Visitor information

To enter the museum, a health pass is required for everyone over the age of 12.

Museum opening hours:
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, closed Tuesday.

Compulsory booking of a time slot online at louvre.fr, including for those entitled to free admission.
Free for residents of European Economic Area countries under the age of 26.
